Colours for all Seasons!

Here’s a reminder of those special colours which will work for you no matter what your colouring is!

These shades are flattering for virtually all hair, skin or eye combination - as well as being versatile enough tp wear throughout the year.

Red: Especially Geranium, a slightly pinky red works almost as a neutral in many cases, being versatile enough to wear with many other colours. It brings out the natural red or rosy tone to the cheeks and looks great with virtually any skin and hair colour. This shade looks great in summer, think strawberries and cream or a crisp red blouse makes a stunning choice for autumn while a snuggly red knits can warm up your winter wardrobe.

Plum: Another highly versatile shade, this rich hue from the purple family looks exceptional on nearly everyone! As a great alternative to black it can add richness to your Autumn/Winter wardrobe - perhaps worn with the red you already have! If you have brighter or lighter colouring this shade can look fabulous mixed with mango or warm pink tones. While this shade is more associated with autumn it can look fabulous mixed with the cooler pinks and blues with stunning effect, after all we eat berry ice-creams in summer, so why not look edible!

Teal: A flattering colour that is a must for every wardrobe! This beautiful blue-green mix can bring out the eyes of most women, and works a treat with almost any colour throughout the year! As great with red or black as it is mixed with violets and peaches!

Other universal tones are turquoise, warm pink, winter white, soft grey, charcoal, navy and periwinkle.

All Eyes on the Accessory

The wonderful thing about accessories is that they can give your look an instant update without having to fork out a small fortune.

This season, acccessories aren't just add-ons to your outfit, they are key to your look, but just one pieces is enough: less is most definitely more. So, take your carefully chosen hat or scarf or handbag and work your whole outfit around it.

The Hat

Hats are being truly celebrated this season with styles ranging from the casual fairisle bobble and the cable knit ?trapper' (with the long bits covering your ears) to the smarter trilby, cloche or beret. Your personality will dictate the styles you are instantly drawn to but the main things to consider are size and colour. The size of the hat should complement the size of your head and face and generally your overall scale. If you are petite and have a small face don't go for large brims or big decorations. If you are medium to large in scale you can carry off the bigger styles and you should avoid very small or tight fitting hats.

The colour should be a shade or shades that flatter your skin tone and hair colour. Black is elegant and versatile but it doesn't suit everyone and with the hat right next to your face the colour will make a huge difference to how you look.

The Gloves

For this season's elegant looks you should invest in a good leather or suede pair of gloves. If you have quite large hands then get the very soft leather as they are easier to get on and off. The long glove is back which is good for the cold and also looks much more stylish when wearing your cloak or coat with three quarter length sleeves. Don't be afraid to try a colour rather than opting for black and brown; deep reds and burgundies, purple, navy or forest green are perfect for winter. For a comfy and cosy wool pair, adopt the 'ski set' look with some fairisle mittens

The Handbag

If you are a handbag obsessive you probably create looks around your favourite pieces already so you will love all the attention being on your most prized accessory. This season's simple and smart handbags are a refreshing change from previously overdone and over-decorated styles and they instantly make you want to behave more ladylike. The satchel is also a favourite and you can find it in a range of neutral browns and also in some fabulous colours.

There are no rules and if it suits your personality mix up your smart and casual; wear your tan satchel with your evening maxi dress or your prim handbag with your jeans. Always consider scale with your handbag, even if you favour the oversized styles take care it doesn't overwhelm your look.

The Scarf

Woollen scarves are part of the elegant slouchy look this season and they look very stylish not just with your overcoat but as part of an outfit. They graduate up to the larger pashmina or wrap so you have plenty of choices to look good and feel warm. Take care not to go too chunky on the knit if you have a small frame, go for finer wools.

On the smarter side, silk scarves with classic prints and designs go hand in hand with the ladylike looks. Wear them tied neatly around the neck and teamed with a neat jersey or blouse or, take a longer chiffon scarf and make it into a bow for an ultra-feminine touch. If you are short in the neck you should avoid neck scarves and wear longer ones that drape further down your décolletage.

Great, a New Year is a perfect time for a good wardrobe clear out and a refresh of your look. Going through and sorting out your clothes can be extremely satisfying -you may even find some things that you had quite forgotten about!

The problem is the sales come along and with the current economy it is more tempting than ever to “save” money  by  buying bargains! However, it could be that you have something perfect already in your wardrobe, combinations you have not yet discovered or had quite forgotten!

So before you get over excited about those bargains that could remain undiscovered at the back of your wardrobe ‘til next year’s sales ..or beyond..why not review what you have! You may just need to add a few accessories, some fab new shoes or boots and freshen up what you already have!

It’s actually really quite fun spending “time in your wardrobe”! Your clothes should be satisfying like old friends, you should have built up a great relationship! Love them and nurture them and they will return the favour....so take some time out...forget the shops for now and do a little servicing of your wardrobe.

Check buttons, remove stains (or discard!), turn up hems, heel your shoes, untangle that necklace, discard anything that you didn’t even want to wear last Christmas...or still haven’t slimmed to fit! ....Go on NOW!!!!!!

Right, you’re back...doesn’t that feel great! I bet you have managed to reunite some lovely outfits simply by fixing that annoying little..whatever! And you have a nice pile to benefit the charity shops -WIN, WIN!

Now, you still want to go to the shops??

...I’ll give you some ideas on that later but most importantly - recognsie when a bargain isn’t a bargain! If you wouldn’t have bought it at full price, why not? Does it really suit you and do you know you will love wearing it???

Finally, look out for my postings on some clothes swapping parties!

I will happily help you with a Wardrobe Revamp or Personal Shopping!
Let me know what help you need and we can take it from there!

October Hues News

I feel like I hardly got my summer wardrobe out and here we are right back in autumn again! As always this offers us the opportunity to take stock of our wardrobes and really enjoy planning ahead to those cosy evenings and cuddly fabrics!

This season continues the eclectic mix of fashion with a fun dimension! Gosh, even black patent is back and I loved that when I was five!...and did we hear the word punk? Yes, I am sure some of you did do the foray into pink and purple hair with a unreceptive adult audience who thought it was all quite ridiculous!...did any of your mothers refuse to walk down the road with you?

Hailing from Scotland I am pleased to note the reverential return to tartan, although it never quite goes away! I adored my kilt and I think that the one I wore as a youngster is still about the right length!...ah, but now I can put tartan tights with it...I don't remember those before!! I did have some PVC type boots which were fab and they seem to have returned more like leggings....I'm thinking hot flushes and that could be a slippery slope to disaster!

New Gothic continues this black theme but in a grown up and glamorous way! Sparkly black accessories, shiny satin finishes, luxurious black fabrics such as silk, satin, lace and chiffon. Just remember to add your colour so that you don't look like a revival of the Addams family!  The 70’s Bohemia/Folk look is actually rather nice with wide legged trousers that we called flared! There are pretty bohemian printed tops, furry gillets and large accessories with folksy prints most fashionably worn with opaque tights!

Important attention to detail will find you updating with patterned tights, really long boots..less so cowboy this year! Bow neckties, ethnic scarves, clutch bags, vintage style jewellery and crocheted bits and bobs! And always, always add your colour ..that gorgeous jade out there suits everyone!

I really will have those dates for Open Days up here before long but you are always welcome to contact me anyway with your queries.

Happy shopping!
